About the brand
Why we stock Barco
Barco builds the projectors in most of the world's commercial cinemas. Barco Residential takes the same DMDs, laser light engines and colour science and puts them in projectors sized for a house: from the RGB LED Bragi for a media room, through the native-4K Heimdall, to the Series 4 Freya and Nerthus, which are commercial cinema projectors with a home-cinema media block.
The range splits in two. The Pulse series (Bragi, Balder, Heimdall, Hodr, Njord) is installed and calibrated by us in a day. The Cinema at Home series (Freya, Nerthus) is installed, commissioned and maintained by Barco-certified engineers as a condition of warranty; CHT is certified, and the annual maintenance visit is part of the ownership plan we quote with the projector.
We are an authorised Barco Residential dealer in Sydney. Nothing on these pages carries a price, because a Barco is specified, not bought: lens, colour wheel, mount, projection-room design, installation and calibration change the number by a wide margin. Tell us the room and we will tell you the number.
Barco questions we get asked
Which Barco do I need?
Screen width and room light decide it. Up to about 3 metres in a dark room: Bragi or Balder. Up to 4.5 metres, film-first: Heimdall. Beyond that, or with daylight in the room: Hodr or Njord. For a private screening room built to commercial cinema standards: Freya or Nerthus.
Pulse or Cinema at Home?
Pulse is Barco's home-cinema platform: single- or three-chip DLP, laser or LED, HDMI in, installed by CHT. Cinema at Home is the Series 4 commercial cinema platform with the Alchemy media block, native 4K on 0.98" or 1.38" DMDs and RGB laser at 7,500 to 32,000 lumens; it needs a projection room, dedicated power and Barco-certified installation.
What does Cinemascope mean on a Barco?
A version of the same projector whose DMD is mapped to a native 2.37:1 image. A scope screen is filled edge to edge with no anamorphic lens and no lens memory; 16:9 content is shown pillarboxed at full height. Brightness is a little lower than the 16:9 version.
Why is there no price?
Because the projector is a fraction of the project. Lens choice alone runs from included to over $50,000; add the colour wheel, the mount, projection-room ventilation, installation and calibration, and two rooms with the same projector can differ by a third. We quote the whole thing, in writing, after seeing the room or the plans.
Do I need a Lumagen with a Barco?
Pulse projectors have good tone mapping of their own; a Lumagen Radiance Pro still adds per-source HDR handling, aspect automation and a 3D LUT that lets us calibrate the whole chain. On the Series 4 projectors the Lumagen is the standard front end. We specify it in most Barco rooms.
Do you install and calibrate?
Yes. Every Barco we supply is installed by us, aligned to the screen and RealColor-calibrated on site. Cinema at Home projectors are commissioned under Barco's certified-installation programme.
