Why we stock Lumagen
Lumagen makes the video processor that sits between your sources and your projector and quietly fixes everything the projector can't. Dynamic tone mapping that makes HDR watchable on a projector, scaling that doesn't ring, aspect-ratio control that stops you touching the lens memory, and a 3D LUT that lets us calibrate the whole chain properly rather than nudging the projector's menus.
We've installed Radiance Pro processors in cinema rooms across Sydney and we calibrate every one we sell. That matters more with Lumagen than with anything else in the rack: the box is only as good as its setup. A Lumagen configured out of the carton is a very expensive pass-through. A Lumagen configured against your actual projector, screen and room is the single biggest picture upgrade available short of changing the projector.
We're an authorised Lumagen dealer. Units are ordered to indent, arrive within a few weeks, and we do the install, the source setup and the calibration in one visit.
Lumagen questions we get asked
Do I need a Lumagen if my projector already does tone mapping?
Usually yes, if you care about HDR. Projector tone mapping works from a single static value per film; Lumagen's Dynamic Tone Mapping analyses every frame and adjusts to it, so bright scenes keep their highlights and dark scenes keep their shadow detail. On a JVC or Sony this is the difference people notice first.
What's the difference between the 4240, 4242 and 5348?
Same processing, different connectivity. The 4240 has two 18 GHz inputs and one video output (rack or compact chassis); the 4242 has four inputs; the 5348 has ten inputs and two video outputs. All three add an audio-only output. If your AV receiver switches sources, a 4240 is enough. If you want every source going straight into the Lumagen (better for lip sync and HDR handling), count your sources and pick accordingly.
Where does the Artisan fit?
It's the newer platform: a 12-bit 4:4:4 pipeline, eight inputs, two outputs and an optional HDMI 2.1 key for 8K and 4K120. If you're building a room now that you expect to keep for ten years, or you're running a high-frame-rate gaming source, the Artisan is the one. For a film-first 4K room the Radiance Pro is still exceptional.
Does CHT calibrate it?
Yes, and we won't sell one without. Calibration is quoted with the unit and done in your room with your projector and screen.
Can I use a Lumagen with an anamorphic lens or a 2.35:1 screen?
That's one of its best uses. Non-linear stretch, programmable aspect, size and masking, and automatic aspect detection mean the picture always fills the screen correctly without you touching the projector.
