Lumagen Radiance Pro 4240 Video Processor

The Radiance Pro 4240 is the entry to Lumagen's video processing: the same tone mapping, scaling and calibration engine as the 5348, with two inputs and a single video output. It's the right model when your AV receiver or processor is already switching sources and you want the Lumagen sitting between the receiver and the projector doing what the receiver can't.

What it does for the picture

• Dynamic Tone Mapping. HDR on a projector is a compromise; a projector has a fraction of the light a TV has. Lumagen analyses every frame and maps it to the light your projector actually produces, so highlights don't clip and shadows don't go grey. This alone is why most people buy one.
• NoRing scaling. 1080p sources look like proper 4K rather than sharpened 1080p. Per-pixel deinterlacing handles the odd SD or interlaced source without artefacts.
• Aspect ratio handling. Automatic detection, non-linear stretch, programmable size and masking. Set up once for a 2.35:1 screen, with or without an anamorphic lens, and never touch the projector's lens memory again.
• Calibration. A 21-point parametric greyscale and a 4913-point 3D LUT mean we calibrate the whole chain in the processor, not in the projector's limited menus. The result is a greyscale and gamut that hold from black to peak white.
• Genlock. Each input frame is output exactly once. No dropped or duplicated frames, so motion is as clean as the source.
• Game mode. 3 ms of video delay with processing on.

Inputs and outputs

Two 18 GHz HDMI inputs, one 18 GHz HDMI output, and one audio-only HDMI output so the processor can pass audio to an AVR that doesn't need to see the video. HDMI 2.0, HDCP 2.3, 4K60 in and out. Compatible with Dolby LLDV sources.

Rack or compact

The rack version is a 1U chassis with rack ears included. The compact version is the same processor in a smaller case for a credenza or a small equipment cupboard.

Who it suits

A one- or two-source room where the AVR is the switch: a media player and a disc player into the receiver, receiver into the Lumagen, Lumagen into the projector. If you want more sources going directly into the processor, look at the 4242 or 5348.
