Ortofon 2MR Blue (suits Rega turntables) Moving Magnet Cartridge

Serious vinyl, built to fit Rega tonearms

The Ortofon 2MR Blue (suits Rega turntables) Moving Magnet Cartridge is a slimline version of Ortofon's well-known 2M series, with a low profile body designed to sit at the correct height on turntables like Rega. It carries a nude elliptical diamond on an aluminium cantilever, driven by Ortofon's quad coil motor system. This is the point in the 2M range where vinyl playback starts to sound genuinely serious.

Why You'll Love It

• Fits Rega without fuss. The slimline body removes the need for tonearm spacers, shims or modifications, so it mounts at the right height straight away.
• Nude elliptical stylus. A nude elliptical diamond traces the record groove more precisely than a basic bonded profile, drawing out more detail.
• Standard half inch mount. Two screws and standard half inch spacing make fitting quick on most tonearms.

Under the Hood

• Quad coil motor system. Four copper coils and four split pole pins form the generator behind the 2MR Blue.
• Aluminium cantilever and premium damper. The nude elliptical diamond sits on an aluminium cantilever paired with a Premium Ortofon rubber damper.
• Full 2M stylus compatibility. Every Ortofon 2M stylus fits every 2MR cartridge body, so the stylus can be upgraded later without replacing the cartridge.

CHT Insider Verdict

The 2MR Blue is the step where vinyl starts to sound properly serious. The nude elliptical diamond and quad coil motor lift detail and tracking over entry-level cartridges, and the low profile body drops onto a Rega arm at the correct height with no shims. It is a sensible choice for owners who want more from their records without rebuilding the turntable.

Pro Tip: Because every 2M stylus fits the 2MR body, you can start with the Blue and later slot in a higher 2M stylus such as the Bronze or Black for a bigger jump in performance, without buying a whole new cartridge.
