Condition Notes

This pair of Monitor Audio Silver 500 7G floorstanders came off our own demonstration floor and is in excellent condition. The Natural Walnut veneer is clean and even across both cabinets with no notable marks, the C-CAM cones and gold dome tweeters are unmarked, and the gold-plated bi-wire terminals are as new with their links fitted. The outrigger feet are fitted. One pair only, at a substantial saving over the $4,799 RRP.

The Silver 500 is the top of the Silver range and the point at which it stops being a value proposition and starts being a serious speaker. Two 8-inch RST II bass drivers in a tall, high-volume cabinet give it reach to 27 Hz, which is subwoofer territory, and 90.5 dB of sensitivity means a modest amplifier can drive it properly rather than merely make it play.

It is a true three-way. A dedicated 3-inch RST II midrange in its own enclosure carries the vocal band alone, so the two bass drivers are free to move air without muddying the voices above them. That separation is what you hear on large-scale material: the orchestra gets bigger without the soloist getting smaller.

Twin HiVe II rear ports tuned to 36 Hz handle the loading, the 1-inch C-CAM gold dome sits in a Uniform Dispersion waveguide for even treble well off axis, and the cabinet handles 250 watts. Outrigger feet with a choice of spikes or rubber pads come as standard.

These want a mid to large room and an amplifier with some current behind it. Given that, there is very little at the price that moves this much air this cleanly, and in Natural Walnut they look considerably more expensive than they are.
