Big cinema sound from one slim bar

The Denon DHT-S218 is a low-profile sound bar with Dolby Atmos and two built-in, down-firing subwoofers, so it delivers a full home theatre sound without a separate subwoofer box. Its slim cabinet sits neatly in front of most televisions, and a single HDMI eARC cable connects it to the TV. Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) Audio adds low-latency wireless streaming with better sound quality.

Why You'll Love It

  • Room-filling sound, no subwoofer box. Two down-firing subwoofers are built into the bar itself, giving you genuine low-end weight while keeping the setup to a single slim unit.
  • Clearer dialogue on demand. The Denon Dialog Enhancer lifts voices out of busy soundtracks, so you catch every line without turning the volume up.
  • Simple one-cable setup. A single HDMI eARC connection carries sound from the TV, and remote learning lets you control volume with the TV remote you already use.

Under the Hood

  • 2.1 system with six drivers. Two 25mm tweeters, two racetrack midrange drivers and two 75mm subwoofers cover the full range from one cabinet.
  • Dolby Atmos decoding. The DHT-S218 handles Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus and Linear PCM for height cues and detail from compatible sources.
  • Bluetooth LE Audio with LC3. Alongside 4K HDMI with eARC, an optical input and an analog input, Bluetooth streaming supports the LC3 codec for lower latency and higher quality.

CHT Insider Verdict

The DHT-S218 is a strong pick for anyone who wants a real step up from built-in TV speakers without adding a separate subwoofer or a rack of components. It suits small to medium rooms, and its low height makes it a good match for televisions that sit low on their stand. This is a tidy, single-bar upgrade rather than a full separates system, and for most living rooms that is exactly the point.

Pro Tip: Because the subwoofers fire downward, give the bar a solid, flat surface with a little clearance beneath it. If you wall-mount it on the keyhole slots, keep soft furnishings clear of the underside so the bass can move air freely.

Will it suit my system? Check it works with your room and gear, or build a full system around it.
