Height channels without touching the ceiling

The Monitor Audio Silver AMS 8G is a purpose built Dolby Atmos height module, a sealed two way with a 5.25 inch C-CAM RST III driver and a 25mm C-CAM Gold Dome tweeter on an optimised waveguide. It is sold as a pair and designed to sit directly on top of the Silver 50 8G or Silver 300 8G, firing upward so the ceiling does the work. Nothing gets cut into the plaster and no cable runs overhead.

Why You'll Love It

• Atmos without the renovation. These sit on the speakers you already own in the range, so overhead effects arrive without ceiling cutouts, patching or a cable run through the roof space.

CHT Insider Verdict

Up-firing modules live or die on the ceiling above them, so be honest about yours before you buy. A flat, hard, reasonably low ceiling gives a convincing height layer, while a raked, timber-lined or acoustically soft ceiling scatters the reflection and you would be better served by in-ceiling speakers. Note the cabinet is 312mm deep, deeper than it is tall or wide, so check the top of your Silver 50 or Silver 300 has the footprint to take it.

Pro Tip: Run your processor's room calibration with the modules exactly where they will live, grilles on. Atmos height channels rely on delay and level trims far more than the bed channels do, and a calibration taken with the modules sitting in a temporary spot will place the overhead effects in the wrong part of the room.
