Condition Notes

A matched pair of Gold 100 6G standmounts in excellent condition, showing no signs of use. The Satin White lacquer is clean and even across every face, with no scuffs, marks or discolouration and sharp, unchipped cabinet edges. The die-cast driver surrounds are unmarked, the MPD III pod is perfect, and the bi-wire terminals are as new.

Supplied complete with the individual magnetic driver grilles, bi-wire links and the original factory packaging.

The Gold 100 6G is a standmount that refuses to behave like one. Where almost every rival at this size settles for a two-way, Monitor Audio built a genuine three-way into the cabinet - MPD III transducer, a dedicated 3-inch midrange driver in its own steel mid-pod with a die-cast aluminium baffle, and an 8-inch bass driver underneath. That is a floorstander's driver complement in a box you can put on a stand.

The point of the separate midrange is simple and audible: the 8-inch driver never has to reproduce a voice. It handles bass and nothing else, which means it can be optimised purely for excursion and control, while the midrange driver works in a sealed, isolated chamber free of the pressure swings happening below it. Vocals sit forward, clean and unforced, and they stay that way when the music gets loud.

Above them, the MPD III is the latest version of Monitor Audio's folded-ribbon transducer. Rather than pushing air with a dome, it squeezes it from a pleated membrane - far less moving mass, and an extension and smoothness at the top end that metal domes struggle to match without sounding hard.

An 8-inch bass driver in a standmount also does something no 6-inch can: it moves enough air to give music a physical foundation without a subwoofer. In a medium room, properly stood and given some space from the rear wall, these do not sound like a compromise against floorstanders - they sound like a deliberate choice.

They do want an amplifier with some current behind it. The load is 4 Ω and these will take 250 W, so give them something that does not flinch at a 4 Ω rating and they repay it with scale and composure. Satin White in particular is a finish that disappears into a light room in a way the gloss options cannot.
