Smooth, Even Bass in Your Room

The MiniDSP 2x4 HD is the affordable tool serious listeners use to tame a room's bass. This compact 2-in, 4-out digital processor sits between your source and your subs, adding parametric EQ, active crossovers and per-output time delay to align and blend multiple subwoofers and flatten the peaks and nulls every room creates.

Why You'll Love It

  • Smoother bass everywhere: Every room creates booms and dead spots. Pair the 2x4 HD with a measurement mic and the free REW software and it flattens those peaks and fills the dips, so bass sounds even wherever you sit.

  • Time-align your subwoofers: Each of the four outputs has its own adjustable delay, so every sub arrives in step with your main speakers instead of lagging behind. That's the difference between muddy and tight bass, and it's also how you blend two, three or four subs to work as one.

  • One box, many jobs: Subwoofer correction, active crossovers or bi-amping. The same hardware handles whatever your system needs, all from free software on your Mac or PC.

Under the Hood

  • Real high-res processing: A 400MHz Analog Devices SHARC DSP runs 96kHz internal processing with 24-bit conversion, so EQ and crossovers are applied without dulling the sound.

  • Connects to anything: RCA analogue in and out, TOSLINK optical in, and USB audio up to 192kHz, so it drops into a hi-fi or home-theatre chain as a sub processor or a full active crossover.

  • FIR and IIR filters, four presets: Dial in linear-phase crossovers and precise EQ, save up to four presets switchable by the included IR remote, then run standalone with no computer connected.

CHT Insider Verdict

Dollar for dollar, the 2x4 HD is one of the best bass upgrades we sell. A single sub dialled in with it will beat two subs plugged in blind, and it's the backbone of nearly every serious multi-sub system we design. If you're chasing tight, even bass, start here.

Pro Tip: Choose the version with the UMIK-1 measurement mic (or add one) and use the free REW software to measure your room first. That measure-and-correct step is where most of the improvement comes from, and it's the part people skip.
