Eight Channels of Precision Speaker and Subwoofer Control

The MiniDSP Flex Eight DSP Processor takes two channels of digital audio in and sends eight processed channels out, giving you room to tune active speakers and subwoofers exactly the way you want. A 32-bit floating-point SHARC DSP handles the processing, and a low-noise analog output stage keeps the result clean. It can also be software-upgraded to Stereo Dirac Live for full range room correction.

Why You'll Love It

  • Two in, eight out. With two digital input channels and eight unbalanced RCA outputs, you can drive a fully active speaker and subwoofer system from a single, compact unit.
  • Room correction when you want it. The Flex Eight runs FIR filters, parametric EQ and crossovers out of the box, and can be upgraded to Stereo Dirac Live for full range correction across 20 Hz to 20 kHz.
  • Flexible digital inputs. Connect over USB audio, S/PDIF, optical or Bluetooth, with the OLED front panel and encoder knob, plus the included IR remote, handling volume and control.

Under the Hood

  • SHARC DSP engine. Processing runs on a 32-bit floating-point Analog Devices SHARC ADSP21489 clocked at 400 MHz, paired with a multi-core XMOS USB audio processor.
  • Measured performance. Digital-to-analog signal-to-noise ratio is rated at 125 dB(A) with the Dynamic Range Enhancer, with THD+N of -111 dB (0.0003%) at 1 kHz and crosstalk of -120 dB.
  • Per-channel processing. Each output channel offers IIR filtering with ten bands, alongside a stereo FIR bank on the input for impulse response correction, and up to four presets to store your setups.

CHT Insider Verdict

The Flex Eight is built for people who want real control of an active setup, not just a tone tweak. With eight processed outputs, proper crossovers and the option of Dirac Live, it sits comfortably at the centre of a multi-way speaker or subwoofer system while keeping the signal path clean and quiet.

Pro Tip: If you plan to run Dirac Live room correction, choose the bundle that adds the UMik-1 measurement microphone. Dirac needs a calibrated mic to measure your room, so having one ready from the start saves you sourcing it later.
