The Pro-Ject T1 EVO Turntable with Ortofon OM 10 Cartridge is a belt-drive deck built to deliver honest hi-fi sound on a sensible budget. It pairs a CNC-machined wooden plinth and a heavy glass platter with a one-piece aluminium tonearm, and it is supplied with an Ortofon OM10 moving magnet cartridge. This model does not include a built-in phono stage, so it needs an amplifier with a phono input or a separate phono preamp.

Under the Hood

  • One-piece aluminium tonearm. The tonearm is made as a single piece of aluminium with an integrated headshell, which avoids the extra vibration that detachable or glued-on headshells can introduce.
  • Precision main bearing. The belt-driven motor turns a newly designed sub-platter running in an ultra-precise 0.001 mm main bearing with a hardened stainless steel axle and brass bushing.
  • Controlled, quiet rotation. An electronically controlled motor system and low-friction bearings keep the platter spinning smoothly for the tonearm and cartridge to track accurately.

The T1 EVO is a genuine hi-fi turntable at an accessible price, and the choices Pro-Ject has made, solid materials over plastic and a fixed one-piece tonearm, are the ones that matter for sound. Just remember it has no phono stage of its own, so plan to run it into an amplifier with a phono input or a separate phono preamp.

Pro Tip: Before you order, check the back of your amplifier for a socket marked Phono (MM). If it only has line inputs such as Aux or CD, add a moving magnet phono preamp between the turntable and amplifier so the OM10 cartridge plays at the right level.
