The Flagship Reserve Floorstander
The Polk Audio Reserve R700 Floorstanding Speakers are the flagship of Polk's Reserve line, a full three-way tower with dual 8-inch woofers for massive, effortless bass. Built with technology from Polk's award-winning Legend series, the R700 delivers reference-grade sound whether you run it as a stereo pair or as the front of a serious home theatre. Sold as a pair.
Why You'll Love It
- Massive, controlled bass. Two 8-inch woofers and Polk's Power Port 2.0 deliver deep, room-filling bass that stays clean and tight even at high volume, with no subwoofer needed for most rooms.
- A true three-way design. A separate tweeter, dedicated 6.5-inch midrange and dual woofers each do one job, for effortless dynamics and a big, detailed soundstage.
- Flagship technology. The R700 inherits Polk's Legend-series Pinnacle Ring Radiator tweeter and turbine cone drivers, and is both Hi-Res and IMAX Enhanced certified.
Under the Hood
- Reserve transducers. A 1-inch Pinnacle Ring Radiator tweeter and 6.5-inch turbine cone midrange, crossing at 350 Hz and 2.7 kHz, with the midrange in its own sealed CRC enclosure.
- Serious bass loading. Dual 8-inch polypropylene woofers loaded by a floor-firing Power Port 2.0 with X-Port absorbers, for louder, cleaner bass with minimal port noise.
- Built to last. A cross-braced cabinet with rounded corners, spike and pad feet, and dual binding posts for bi-wiring or bi-amping.
CHT Insider Verdict
The R700 is Polk's flagship floorstander, and it punches well above its price. The dual 8-inch woofers give it the scale and authority of far more expensive speakers, and the Legend-derived drivers keep it detailed and refined rather than just loud. As a stereo pair it is a genuine audiophile speaker, and as the front of a home theatre it anchors the whole system. It is a demanding load though, dipping to 3.6 ohms, so give it a capable amplifier. Sold as a pair.
Pro Tip: The R700 is ready for Dolby Atmos. Add a pair of Polk's optional R900 height modules on top and they fire sound off your ceiling for overhead effects, with no in-ceiling speakers or wiring runs required. It is the tidiest way to add height channels to a Reserve system.
