A Phono Stage and ADC in One, With DSP Precision

The MiniDSP ADept is two audiophile tools in one: a high-resolution analog-to-digital converter and a flexible DSP phono preamp. Connect a turntable and it becomes an adjustable MM or MC phono stage with pinpoint EQ, or feed it any line-level source and digitise it to SPDIF, optical or USB. It is the easiest way to bring vinyl and analog into a digital system, or to archive your records to a computer.

Why You'll Love It

  • A phono stage you can tune. Full DSP control over gain, resistance and capacitance for moving magnet or moving coil cartridges, so you can dial in any turntable perfectly and save it as a preset.
  • Digitise your vinyl. Record straight to a computer or mobile device over USB-C, or feed a digital system over SPDIF and optical, all with a very low noise floor.
  • EQ curves beyond RIAA. Alongside standard RIAA, the ADept adds Decca, Columbia and other curves for older pressings, a treat for serious collectors.

Under the Hood

  • Reference conversion. An ESS ES9842 Pro 32-bit ADC with up to 123 dB SNR and -117 dB THD+N, running 44.1 to 192 kHz.
  • Connect anything. Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs, with SPDIF, optical and USB-C digital outputs all live at once.
  • DSP precision. Phono equalisation accurate to within 0.1 dB, an optional 20 Hz subsonic filter, up to four presets, and full IR remote control.

CHT Insider Verdict

The ADept is a clever, versatile little box that punches well above its price. As a phono stage its adjustable loading and multiple EQ curves make it a match for any cartridge and any era of vinyl, and as an ADC it is the tidiest way to digitise records or bring analog into a digital or miniDSP system. For anyone serious about vinyl who also lives in a digital world, it bridges the two beautifully.

Pro Tip: If you want to archive your records, connect the ADept to your computer over USB-C and capture at 96 or 192 kHz. Its adjustable cartridge loading and choice of EQ curves mean you can get the phono stage exactly right first, so your digital files sound as good as the record does.
