In addition to its great sound quality, the FR6 is also designed to be as compact as possible. It is built with locally sourced materials, ensuring top-notch quality, and is engineered in-house in Murarrie, Brisbane, Australia. The use of locally produced raw materials was a high priority, and over and above the previous M6, the FR6 includes Binding posts from ETI Research, an Australian audio connector company based in Brisbane. The drive units and crossover components are also of very high quality, making the FR6 a deceptively complex little speaker.
The FR6 features 2 mid-bass drive units, one hidden inside the enclosure in an isobaric arrangement, and the other visible on the front baffle. The tweeter is a wide-surround 29mm soft dome, offering a very pleasant sound and a dispersion pattern that is less likely to excite reflections in modern rooms. Around the back is an oval passive radiator, which provides turbulence-free extra deep bass instead of a bass reflex port. This design allows for a smaller cabinet size, while still reaching deep into the bass like a largish subwoofer.
For the best sound quality, the FR6 is recommended to be placed on a pair of quality loudspeaker stands, but it can also be propped on a shelf. The FR6 offers the most stable stereo image when sited correctly on stands, which also improves its already stunningly fast, agile bass.
The FR6 is built with an Australian-made MR MDF and Australian species real wood veneers, and is finished with a clear satin finish over Queensland Walnut real wood veneer. It includes a magnetic grille and is 385mm high, 230mm wide, and 330mm deep, with a weight of 11kg each.
