Two ways to read the room

See it your way.

Every commission is judged on two fronts: how it looks and lives, and how it performs. Switch between the two below.

View as

A ceiling of stars

A fibre-optic star field turns the ceiling into a night sky. It dims the edges of the room and draws every eye to the screen.

Treatment that warms the room

Walnut columns and brass uplights break up the fabric-wrapped acoustic panels, so the treatment that tames the sound also warms the space rather than deadening it.

Built to recline

Two tiered rows of leather recliners, each with its own ambient lighting, positioned so every seat is a good seat.

Concealed within the home

Textured plaster, walnut and stone let the room read as considered architecture by day, and reveal itself as a cinema only when the lights fall.

The brief

A dedicated cinema, concealed within a family home, engineered to perform like a reference room and read like architecture.

The owners wanted a true cinema rather than a media room with a large television: a dark, quiet, purpose-built space where picture and sound arrive as intended. It had to sit discreetly within the home, feel warm rather than clinical, and seat family and guests in comfort across two rows.

The response

A room engineered to disappear.

01

Measured first

The space was assessed before any finish was chosen, so the layout, seating and acoustic treatment were driven by the room rather than fitted around it.

02

Concealment by design

Walnut columns, textured plaster and fabric-wrapped panels hide the working parts. Acoustic absorption, loudspeakers and cabling disappear into the architecture.

03

Built as one system

Star ceiling, tiered seating, projection, lighting, the wet bar and control were installed and integrated together, not assembled piecemeal.

04

Set to reference

Picture and sound were calibrated on completion and set to recall at the touch of a keypad.
